The Rathsam Nature Reserve

This is an area around the meandering confluence of the Ohře and the Reslava rivers and the adjacent wetlands, located near the village of Pomezná. The Rathsam Nature Reserve was declared a protected natural feature in 1990 and a reserve in 1998. At the end of World War II, the southern part of the reserve was home to the village of Rathsam, a small settlement with 16 houses and about 80 German inhabitants. After the expulsion in 1945, the settlement was not repopulated and disappeared so quickly that it did not even have time to be given a Czech name.

Bismarck Outlook Tower near Cheb

It is one of three Czech towers built in honor of German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck. The stone lookout tower was built in 1909 on the site of the original wooden lookout tower. During the Iron Curtain era, the lookout tower was located in a restricted border zone. Now it is freely accessible and offers views of the peaks of the Slavkovský and Český Forests, the Smrčiny Mountains and the Ore Mountains.

Goethe Educational Forest Park

At the end of Kachní kámen Street, in the area of the former swimming pool above the Skalka Dam, there is a popular excursion spot. Here you will find a large palisade and shrub maze, a viewing platform, an educational trail, a children's playground, and plenty of places to relax. If you continue further, you will reach the Chebská stráž (Egerwarte) viewing gazebo. It originally stood above the river and offered a view of the Ohře valley. However, after the dam was built, the water rose and the surrounding trees grew over it. Nevertheless, it still offers a good view.
